Pseudotropheus sp."elongatus deep water" is living on an average depth of about 40 metres between some spreaded boulders on the sandbottom. They can only be found near the southern rocky coast of Mbamba Bay and in the neighbourhood of Luhuchi Rocks; sometimes this reef is also referred to as Sambia Reef. This male example is found near the southern rocky coasts of Mbamba Bay. In the lake the males of these species can grow to 11 cm, in the aquarium however they can grow a little taller because of a good feeding. The males can then grow to about 13 cm, females grow to about 10 cm. Pseudotropheus sp."elongatus deep water" can behave reasonable tolerant against equal species, towards against other inhabitants they are also generally tolerant. You can best keep this species with multiple females and other mbunas in an aquarium with a lot of hiding places. In the lake they are mainly feeding themselves with algae and small invertebrates which they find on the rocks and they also eat plankton in the water in front of these rocks. In the aquarium they are comfortable with any food. They take everything they get offered, like spirulina pellets, mysis, artemia, cyclops and shrimp-peas mix. Food rich of algae like spirulina pellets or flakes is very important to them so this should not be missing on their menu.
